Praying for Our Missionaries

Anointing – Pray that God will set missionaries apart through the anointing of the Holy Spirit, empowering them to minister to those held captive by sin. See Acts 10:38
Boldness – Ask God to give missionaries boldness to honor Christ every day, even in dangerous situations. See Philippians 1:20
Compassion – Pray that missionaries will be filled with the same compassion that Jesus had for unbelievers and teach about the Savior who can offer grace, peace and direction in a chaotic world. See Mark 6:34
Discernment – Ask God to clear missionaries’ minds of daily cares and worries so they can discern His will for their lives and ministries. See Romans 12:2
Endurance – Pray that, even though they are tested, missionaries will endure through trials having complete faith in Christ. See James 1:3,4
Faith – Ask God to strengthen the missionaries’ faith. Pray that they will have complete trust in Jesus to accomplish the work He has called them to do. See Philippians 4:13
Grace – Pray that God will continually extend His grace to missionaries, giving them the knowledge and power to reach the world for Christ. See Romans 1:5
Humility – Jesus exhibited humility throughout His life, telling his disciples that He came not to be served, but to serve. Pray that missionaries would serve in this same spirit of humility, considering the needs of those they serve as more important than their own ego or material gain. See Philippians 2:3
Insight – Ask God to give missionaries a clear view into the hearts and lives of the people they minister to, so they will have a greater ability to exhibit God’s love. See Colossians 2:2
Joy – Pray that missionaries will be filled with awe-inspiring joy that can only come through the power of the Holy Spirit. See Romans 14:17
Knowledge – Pray that as missionaries continually seek greater knowledge of God, He will reveal Himself to them in a personal and intimate way. See Ephesians 1:17
Love – Ask God to remind missionaries that great faith without great love can do nothing. See I Corinthians 13:2b
Miracles – Pray that missionaries’ ministries will be characterized by miracles, both in their lives and in the lives of those they serve. See Mark 16:20
Needs – Pray that God would supply all of the missionaries’ spiritual, physical and financial needs. See Philippians 4:19
Optimism – Ask God to give missionaries a spirit of optimism. Although their work is discouraging at times, pray that the Holy Spirit will fill them with joy and peace. See Romans 15:13
Patience – Pray that missionaries will be patient with those they are teaching. Pray that they would continue to correct and encourage, even when it seems like no progress is being made. See II Timothy 4:2
Quality Time – Pray that missionaries will reserve quality time away from their ministries to spend with their families. See I Timothy 5:8
Restoration – Pouring oneself out into the lives of unbelievers can be stressful. Ask God to strengthen and restore missionaries and their families through His grace. See I Peter 5:10
Sacrifice – Thank God for missionaries who are willing to sacrifice the material comforts of life to bring people to the Savior. See John 15:15
Timing – Pray that missionaries will always rely on God’s timing, trusting Him to open the doors for them to walk through. See Ephesians 2:10
Urgency – Pray that missionaries would have an urgent desire to share Christ. See Romans 10:1
Vision – Ask God to put His vision into the hearts of missionaries, so they can accomplish all that He has planned to touch people’s lives and grow the Kingdom. See Mark 16:15
Willingness – Ask God to give missionaries a spirit of willingness to diligently plan and carry out His vision. See Romans 12:11
eXcellence – Pray that missionaries will strive for excellence in serving Christ, presenting their lives as an example of light in a dark world. See Philippians 1:27
Yieldedness – Pray that missionaries would yield themselves completely to the will of God. See Matthew 26:39
Zeal – Excitement is contagious! Pray that missionaries’ zeal would stir up other Christians to share their faith. See II Corinthians 9:2
